Five Young Falcons Moved Into Our New Home Before We Did
Our electrician climbed a ladder expecting to install the final recessed can lights in our nearly completed new home in Mantua, Utah. Instead, he discovered five young falcons living inside the soffit.
That unexpected discovery changed our construction plans—and reminded us why we built Skavengerz in the first place.
At least two of the young falcons are still in the nest as of today, but they're expected to take flight soon, making this a limited opportunity for the public and media to see them in person.
At Skavengerz, we believe adventure often begins with curiosity.
We created our app to help people discover unexpected experiences in the real world. We built Skavengerz to encourage people to go out and discover nature. We just never expected nature to discover us first.
One of our most memorable adventures happened before we even moved into our new home.
An Unexpected Discovery
As we were putting the finishing touches on our new home in Mantua, Utah, our electrician climbed a ladder to install the final recessed can lights.
Instead of finding an empty soffit, he discovered something completely unexpected—a family of five young falcons living just above the ceiling.
What started as an ordinary day on a construction site instantly became something none of us will ever forget.
As you'll hear in the original discovery video below, our electrician jokingly says, "What are you doing in there? Get out of there!" At the time, none of us realized we were looking at a family of young birds. It was simply a surprised, playful reaction to finding unexpected visitors inside a brand-new house.
The moment we realized they had built a nest and were raising their young, work immediately stopped in that area.
Rather than disturb the nest simply to finish construction a little sooner, we decided to delay completing that portion of our home until the birds safely leave on their own.

Watching the Nest
To safely observe the birds without disturbing them, we installed a small security camera nearby.
At least two of the young falcons are still in the nest, and we continue checking on them each day as they prepare for their first flights.
It's amazing how quickly something unexpected can become one of the most memorable parts of building a home.
Why This Story Means So Much to Us
Skavengerz exists to encourage people to put down their phones, step outside, and discover the adventures waiting all around them.
Sometimes those adventures happen on mountain trails.
Sometimes they're hidden in small towns.
And sometimes, they happen right above your ceiling.
This experience has been a wonderful reminder that nature is full of surprises if we're willing to slow down and notice them.
Sometimes the greatest adventures aren't the ones we plan. They're the ones that unexpectedly find us.
Construction can wait.
The birds come first.
If this experience has taught us anything, it's that some of life's greatest adventures arrive when we least expect them.
